Professor Peter Gell speaks at FOGL AGM

An AMAZING turnout of 75 people on 12th October at the Gippsland Lakes Fishing Club to hear👂 Professor Peter Gell speak.

This goes to show that people really do care about the future of the Gippsland Lakes and wetlands 🏞

Peter spoke about our obligations under the Ramsar Convention, and how both the Victorian and Federal governments interpret their reporting obligations in “unusual ways”.🤷

Peter covered examples from other countries🌎🌍 where wetlands and waterways management is, in his view, undertaken with better coordination, vision and scientifically based advice.

The final message from Prof. Gell was that YOU have to decide what you want our Lakes to be, and get involved in making that happen. Or you can be a bystander and have it decided by others, which may turn out less than ideal.

Lots of great questions and comments from the very well informed audience too. Thank you once again for an inspiring session.
