What does that listing actually oblige governments to do, how is it holding up in a changing climate, and what should the next decade look like?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Friends of Gippsland Lakes, Parks and Reserves invites you to a free community forum at St Mary&#8217;s Parish Hall, Bairnsdale, on Thursday 8 October 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The evening opens with a Welcome to Country by <strong>Aunty Marjorie Thorpe<\/strong>, a senior Tjapwurrung woman and Elder of the Gunaikurnai peoples of Gippsland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile\" style=\"grid-template-columns:33% auto\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" src=\"https:\/\/fogl.org.au\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Organisational-staff-bruce.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2710 size-full\" srcset=\"https:\/\/fogl.org.au\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Organisational-staff-bruce.jpg 400w, https:\/\/fogl.org.au\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Organisational-staff-bruce-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our keynote speaker is <strong>Dr Bruce Lindsay<\/strong>, Nature Lead and Senior Specialist Lawyer at Environmental Justice Australia. Dr Lindsay will cover what the Ramsar Convention requires of Australia, how it interacts with historic and impending ecological challenges for the Gippsland Lakes, and how Australian law and practice has responded and may need to respond in the near future to those challenges.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He will be joined by three leading experts responsible for managing a very large and complex ecosystem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Sean Phillipson<\/strong>, East Gippsland Catchment Management Authority<br \/><strong>Eleisha Keogh<\/strong>, West Gippsland Catchment Management Authority<br \/><strong>Eric Sjerp<\/strong>, Chair, Gippsland Lakes Coordinating Committee<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each will speak to their vision for the Lakes, the challenges they face, and their priorities in responding to climate change.
