The Gippsland Lakes<\/mark>, the largest estuarine lagoon system in Australia.<\/strong> Listed under the Ramsar convention<\/a><\/strong> as internationally important, and haven for many threatened and endangered species of birds and marine life. Home of First Nations people Gunaikurnai<\/strong><\/a> and the famous Burrunan Dolphins<\/strong><\/a>, and a boating and watersports mecca.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Who we are<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Friends of the Gippsland Lakes<\/mark><\/strong> is a group of passionate citizens that love the Gippsland Lakes. Our members are people of all skills and backgrounds including waterways managers, ecologists, scientists, engineers, educators, artists and historians. We also acknowledge and heed the wisdom and desires of traditional owners. We welcome anyone with these values to join us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our Philosophy<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

We believe in a positive and co-operative approach<\/mark><\/strong> to achieving great outcomes for the Gippsland Lakes, based on data and science<\/mark> <\/strong>as well as traditional values<\/strong> and local knowledge.<\/strong> We work with the multitude of agencies<\/a> who manage the Lakes, as well as local communities, traditional owners, landowners and primary industry, to effect positive changes in practices and attitudes and achieve a “win win” result for all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I want to support the Gippsland Lakes. What can I do ?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

We are all volunteers and rely totally on membership fees, grants and donations <\/strong>to fund our activities. If you are passionate and perhaps concerned about the future of the Gippsland Lakes, please help us make a positive difference by becoming a <\/strong>FOGl member<\/strong>.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you want to get involved in DOING, there are many options. Researching, water testing, foreshore and lake clean ups, participating in forums and consultation groups, or assisting to run events, amongst many other things. We welcome self starters who can bring new ideas and inspiration. Basically if you have skills that you think can assist, we will use them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
